Rainforests are very dense, warm and wet forests. They are
habitats for millions of Flora and Fauna species which live in different layers
or zones of rainforests. These layers are based on the living environment of
plants and animals living in these rainforests. Starting at the top these layers
are:
Emergent Layer: Giant trees that are much higher than the average tree height. It houses many birds and insects.
Canopy Layer: The upper parts of the trees but not the very top peaks. This leafy environment is full of life in a tropical rainforest and includes animals such as insects, birds, reptiles and mammals.
Understorey Layer: A dark, cool environment which is located under the leaves but over the ground.
Forest Floor: Teeming with animal life, especially insects, this layer contains the largest animals throughout the whole rainforest.
